Simeon sprak een zegen over hen uit en zei tegen Maria, Jezus' moeder: “Dit Kind is bestemd om velen in Israël ten val te brengen of te doen opstaan, en om een waarschuwingsteken te zijn dat controverse zal oproepen.

And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
