ഞാൻ ഉറങ്ങുന്നു എങ്കിലും എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഉണർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. വാതില്ക്കൽ മുട്ടുന്ന എന്റെ പ്രിയന്റെ സ്വരം: എന്റെ സഹോദരീ, എന്റെ പ്രിയേ, എന്റെ പ്രാവേ, എന്റെ നിഷ്കളങ്കേ, തുറക്കുക; എന്റെ ശിരസ്സു മഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടും കുറുനിരകൾ രാത്രിയിൽ പെയ്യുന്ന തുള്ളികൊണ്ടും നനെഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

¶ I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.
