நியாயாதிபதிகள் நியாயம் விசாரித்துவந்த நாட்களில், தேசத்தில் பஞ்சம் உண்டானது; அப்பொழுது யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊரைச்சேர்ந்த ஒரு மனிதன் தன்னுடைய மனைவியோடும், இரண்டு மகன்களோடும் மோவாப் தேசத்திற்குப் போய் குடியிருந்தான்.

Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth-lehem-judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
