അവന്നു എലീമേലെക്ക് എന്നും ഭാര്യക്കു നൊവൊമി എന്നും രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാർക്കു മഹ്ലോൻ എന്നും കില്യോൻ എന്നും പേർ. അവർ യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളഹെമിൽനിന്നുള്ള എഫ്രാത്യർ ആയിരുന്നു; അവർ മോവാബ്‌ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു.
