Abraham en zijn afstammelingen ontvingen de belofte dat de wereld van hen zou zijn niet omdat hij de Wet naleefde, maar omdat hij, dankzij zijn geloof, met God in het reine was.

For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
