അബദ്ധവശാൽ ഒരുത്തനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവൻ ഏവനും അവിടേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു ഈ ആറുപട്ടണം യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾക്കും പരദേശിക്കും വന്നുപാർക്കുന്നവന്നും സങ്കേതം ആയിരിക്കേണം.

These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.
