ગધેડીએ યહોવાહના દૂતને રસ્તામાં પોતાની તલવાર ખેંચીને ઊભેલો જોયો. તેથી ગધેડી પોતાનો રસ્તો બદલીને ખેતરમાં વળી ગઈ. બલામ ગધેડીને મારીને ફરી પછી રસ્તા પર લઈ આવ્યો.

And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
