అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు అతనితో “మేము రాజమార్గంలోనే వెళ్తాం. మేము గాని, మా పశువులుగాని నీ నీళ్లు తాగితే, దాని ఖర్చు చెల్లిస్తాం. కేవలం మమ్మల్ని కాలినడకతో వెళ్లనివ్వు అంతే” అన్నారు. అప్పుడు అతడు “నువ్వు రాకూడదు” అన్నాడు.

And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.
