യോഹന്നാന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരും പരീശന്മാരും ഉപവസിക്ക പതിവായിരുന്നു; അവർ വന്നു അവനോടു: യോഹന്നാന്റെയും പരീശന്മാരുടെയും ശിഷ്യന്മാർ ഉപവസിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; നിന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാർ ഉപവസിക്കാത്തതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
