Pada suatu hari, seperti kebiasaan nenek moyang orang Yahudi, murid-murid Yohanes Pembaptis sedang berpuasa, begitu juga anggota kelompok Farisi. Jadi beberapa orang datang kepada Yesus dan bertanya, “Para murid Yohanes sering berpuasa. Anggota kelompok Farisi juga. Mengapa murid-muridmu tidak?”
