அவர் இவ்வளவு சீக்கிரமாக மரித்துவிட்டார் என்று பிலாத்து ஆச்சரியப்பட்டு, நூற்றுக்கு அதிபதியை அழைத்து: அவர் இவ்வளவு சீக்கிரத்தில் மரித்தது உண்மையா என்று கேட்டான்.

And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
