તેમના માથા પર કાંટાનો મુગટ ગૂંથીને મૂક્યો, તેમના જમણાં હાથમાં સોટી આપી અને તેમની આગળ ઘૂંટણ ટેકીને તેમના ઠઠ્ઠામશ્કરી કરતાં કહ્યું કે, “હે યહૂદીઓના રાજા, સલામ!”

¶ And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
