เปโตรจึงระลึกถึงคำของพระเยซู​ที่​ตรัสแก่เขาว่า “ก่อนไก่​ขัน​ ท่านจะปฏิเสธเราสามครั้ง” ​แล​้วเปโตรก็ออกไปข้างนอกร้องไห้อย่างขมขื่นยิ่งนัก

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
