ทรงถูกพญามารทดลองถึงสี่​สิ​บวัน ในวันเหล่านั้นพระองค์​มิได้​เสวยอะไรเลย และเมื่อสิ้นสี่​สิ​บวันแล้ว ​พระองค์​ทรงอยากพระกระยาหาร

Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
