સંખ્યાબંધ લોકો તેમની પાસે ભેગા થયા હતા ત્યારે તે કહેવા લાગ્યા કે, ‘આ પેઢી તો દુષ્ટ પેઢી છે; તે ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્ન માગે છે, પણ યૂનાનાં ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્ન વિના બીજું ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્ન તેને અપાશે નહિ.

¶ And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
