Och Israels söner slog dem inte eftersom menighetens (församlingens) ledare hade avlagt ed inför Herren (Jahveh), Israels Gud (Elohim). Och hela menigheten muttrade (knorrade) mot ledarna. [Folket var antagligen oroliga för att det skulle få konsekvenser att man brutit mot Guds instruktioner, se Jos 6:17; 5 Mos 20:17.]

And the children of Israel smote them not, because the princes of the congregation had sworn unto them by the LORD God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the princes.
