Daarop kwamen zij tot Jozua terug en zeiden tot hem: Het gehele volk behoeft niet op te trekken, laten ongeveer twee- of drieduizend man optrekken om Ai te verslaan; vermoei niet het gehele volk door een tocht daarheen, want zij zijn daar weinig talrijk.
