Josua 20:9

Dessa [6 fristäder] var de städer som blev avskilda för alla Israels söner och för främlingen som vistades ibland dem. Dit skulle var och en som av misstag (av en olyckshändelse) dödat någon kunna fly för att inte dö för blodshämnarens hand innan han ställts inför församlingen [och fått en rättvis dom].

These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
