På kvällen samma dag, den första veckodagen [söndagen då Jesus uppstått], var lärjungarna tillsammans bakom stängda dörrar av rädsla för judarna. Då kom Jesus och stod mitt bland dem och sa: ”Frid vare med er!” [Den vanliga judiska hälsningsfrasen. Nu då Jesus just har uppstått får den frasen en djupare innebörd, nämligen att ta emot försoningens välsignelser.]
