Efter detta frågade Josef från Arimatea Pilatus om lov att få ta ner Jesu kropp. Josef var en Jesu lärjunge, fast i hemlighet av rädsla för de judiska ledarna. Pilatus tillät det. Då gick han och tog ner Jesu kropp.
