Av den anledningen vandrade Jesus inte längre öppet bland de judiska invånarna, utan gick till en stad som hette Efraim, i en region som gränsar till öknen. Där stannade han med sina lärjungar. [Eftersom Efraims stams område ligger norr om Jerusalem låg staden antagligen några mil nordost om Jerusalem vid gränsen mot öknen i öster. Många identifierar den med den gamla staden Ofra som omnämns i Jos 18:23, drygt två mil nordost om Jerusalem.]
