அப்படியே எல்லா மக்களும் அவரவர் ஒவ்வொரு கிளைகளை வெட்டி, அபிமெலேக்குக்குப் பின்சென்று, அவைகளை அந்தக் கோட்டைக்கு அருகே போட்டு, அக்கினி கொளுத்தி அந்த கோட்டையை எரித்துப்போட்டார்கள்; அதினால் ஆண்களும் பெண்களும் ஏறக்குறைய 1,000 சீகேம் கோபுரத்து மனிதர்கள் எல்லோரும் இறந்தார்கள்.
