ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు ఒక రాజు అంటూ లేని ఆ రోజుల్లో ఎఫ్రామీయుల కొండ ప్రాంతాల్లోని ఉత్తర భాగంలో ఒక లేవీయుడు పరదేశిగా నివసించేవాడు. అతడు యూదా ప్రాంతంలోని బేత్లెహేము నుండి ఒక స్త్రీని తనకు ఉంపుడుగత్తెగా తెచ్చుకున్నాడు.
