ઇઝરાયલમાં કોઈ રાજા નહોતો, તે દિવસોમાં એવું બન્યું કે કોઈ એક લેવી એફ્રાઇમની પહાડી પ્રદેશના સૌથી દૂર વિસ્તારમાં આવીને રહેતો હતો. તેણે બેથલેહેમનાં યહૂદિયામાંથી એક સ્ત્રીને પોતાની ઉપપત્ની તરીકે રાખી હતી.
