తమ పూర్వీకుడైన దాను పేరును బట్టి ఆ పట్టణానికి దాను అని పేరు పెట్టారు. అంతకు ముందు ఆ పట్టణం పేరు లాయిషు.

And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.
