முதலில் லாயீஸ் என்னும் பெயர்கொண்டிருந்த அந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்கு இஸ்ரவேலுக்குப் பிறந்த தங்கள் முற்பிதவான தாணுடைய பெயரின்படியே தாண் என்று பெயரிட்டார்கள்.
