യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ജനിച്ച തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവായ ദാന്റെ പേരിൻ പ്രകാരം നഗരത്തിന്നു ദാൻ എന്നു പേരിടുകയും ചെയ്തു; പണ്ടു ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു ലയീശ് എന്നു പേർ ആയിരുന്നു.

And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.
