Och filistéerna sa: ”Vem har gjort detta?” Och de sa: ”Simson, timnitens svärson, eftersom han har tagit hans hustru och gett henne till hans bestman (hebr. merea) [som ansvarade för bröllopet].” Så filistéerna kom upp och brände henne och hennes far i eld. [Det som de 30 filisteiska bröllopsvännerna hotat att göra mot Simsons hustru om hon inte ger dem svaret på gåtan, sker nu ändå eftersom hennes far inte har respekterat att hon är Simsons hustru, se Dom 14:15.]
