ชาวกิเลอาดก็​เข​้ายึดท่าข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไว้​ไม่​​ให้​คนเอฟราอิมข้าม เมื่อคนเอฟราอิ​มท​ี่​หลบหนี​คนใดมาบอกว่า “​ขอให้​ข้ามไปที​เถิด​” คนกิเลอาดจะถามเขาว่า “​เจ้​าเป็นคนเอฟราอิมหรือ” เมื่อเขาตอบว่า “​เปล่า​”
