då sa de till honom: ”Säg, jag ber dig, Shibbolet” [betyder: flod/bäck], och han sa: ”Sibbolet” eftersom han inte kunde uttala det rätt [jfr Matt 26:73], då tog de fast honom och slog honom vid Jordans vadställen. Och vid den tiden föll från Efraim 42 000. [Detta är ett fruktansvärt inbördeskrig.]

Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
