เยฟธาห์จึงกล่าวแก่พวกผู้​ใหญ่​ของกิเลอาดว่า “ถ้าท่านให้ข้าพเจ้ากลับบ้านเพื่อทำศึ​กก​ับคนอัมโมน และถ้าพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงมอบเขาไว้ต่อหน้าข้าพเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าจะได้เป็นหัวหน้าของท่านหรือเปล่า”

And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
