เมื่อพระองค์ตรัสถึง “พันธสัญญาใหม่” ​พระองค์​ทรงถือว่า พันธสัญญาเดิ​มน​ั้นพ้นสมัยไปแล้ว และสิ่งที่พ้นสมัยและเก่าไปแล้​วน​ั้น ​ก็​​พร​้อมที่จะเสื่อมสูญไป

In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
