De Wet toont slechts een schaduw van de goede dingen die komen, niet hun ware gedaante. Wie God wil benaderen, kan daarom niet volkomen worden vergeven op basis van de offers die ieder jaar opnieuw worden gebracht.

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
