అప్పుడు గెరారులోని పశువుల కాపరులు ఇస్సాకు కాపరులతో “ఈ నీళ్ళు మావే” అంటూ పోట్లాడారు. ఈ విధంగా వాళ్ళు తనతో పోట్లాడారు కనుక ఇస్సాకు ఆ బావికి “ ఏశెకు” అని పేరు పెట్టాడు.

And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
