இந்தக் கற்கள் இஸ்ரவேலின் மகன்களுடைய பெயர்களின்படியே பன்னிரண்டும், அவர்களுடைய பெயர்கள் உள்ளவைகளுமாக இருந்தது; பன்னிரண்டு கோத்திரங்களில் ஒவ்வொரு கோத்திரத்தின் பெயர் ஒவ்வொன்றில் முத்திரைவெட்டாக வெட்டியிருந்தது.
