એસ્તેર 4:16

“જા, સૂસામાં જેટલા યહૂદીઓ છે તે સર્વને ભેગા કર. અને તમે સર્વ આજે મારે માટે ઉપવાસ કરો. ત્રણ દિવસ સુધી રાત્રે કે દિવસે તમારે કોઈએ ખાવુંપીવું નહિ; હું અને મારી દાસીઓ પણ એ જ રીતે ઉપવાસ કરીશું. જો કે એ નિયમ વિરુદ્ધ હોવા છતાં હું રાજાની સમક્ષ જઈશ. જો મારો નાશ થાય, તો ભલે થાય.”

Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
