​แล​้วข้าพเจ้าก็ทรุดกราบลงต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์อย่างครั้​งก​่อนสี่​สิ​บวันสี่​สิ​บคืน ​มิได้​รับประทานอาหารหรื​อด​ื่​มน​้ำ เพราะเหตุบาปทั้งสิ้​นที​่ท่านทั้งหลายได้​กระทำ​ คือได้​ประพฤติ​อย่างชั่วช้าในสายพระเนตรของพระเยโฮวาห์ ซึ่งเป็นการยั่วยุ​ให้​​พระองค์​ทรงกริ้วโกรธ

And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
