5 Moseboken 8:3

Och han ödmjukade dig (tvingade dig att böja dig ner) och lät dig lida av hunger och mättade dig med manna [2 Mos 16:31-36] som du inte visste (saknade kunskap om) vad det var, inte heller dina fäder visste (kände till), för att han skulle låta dig veta (få intim kunskap om) att människan inte lever enbart av bröd, utan människan lever av allt som kommer från Herrens (Jahvehs) mun. [Jesus citerar detta ord när han frestas, se Matt 4:4; Luk 4:4.]

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
