Deuteronomium 8:2

Gedenk dan heel de weg, waarop de Here, uw God, u deze veertig jaar in de woestijn heeft geleid, om u te verootmoedigen en u op de proef te stellen ten einde te weten, wat er in uw hart was: of gij al dan niet zijn geboden zoudt onderhouden.

And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
