உபாகமம் 25:3

அவனை நாற்பது அடிகள்வரைக்கும் அடிக்கலாம்; அவனை அதிலும் அதிகமாக அடிக்கிறதினால் உன் சகோதரன் உன் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக அற்பமானவனாக காணப்படுவான்; ஆதலால் அவனை அதிகமாக அடிக்கவேண்டாம்.

Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
