પુનર્નિયમ 25:3

ન્યાયાધીશ તેને ચાળીસ ફટકા મારે, પણ ચાળીસથી વધારે ફટકા ન મારે; કેમ કે જો તે તેને વધારે ફટકા મારે, તો તમારો સાથી તમારી નજરમાં અપમાનિત ઠરે.

Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
