உபாகமம் 20:19

“நீ ஒரு பட்டணத்தின்மேல் போர்செய்து அதைப் பிடிக்க அநேகநாட்கள் முற்றுகையிட்டிருக்கும்போது, நீ கோடரியை ஓங்கி, அதின் மரங்களை வெட்டிச் சேதம் செய்யாதே அவைகளின் கனியை நீ சாப்பிடலாமே; ஆகையால் உனக்குக் கோட்டைமதில் அமைக்க உதவும் என்று அவைகளை வெட்டாதே; வெளியின் மரங்கள் மனிதனுடைய உயிர்வாழ்வதற்கு ஏற்றவைகள்.

¶ When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:
