Ngunit ipinasiya ni Daniel sa kaniyang isipan na hindi niya dudungisan ang kaniyang sarili sa mga pagkain ng hari o sa mga alak na kaniyang iniinom. Kaya humiling siya ng pahintulot mula sa pinunong opisyal na hindi niya maaaring dungisan ang kaniyang sarili.
