แล้วดาวิดก็ตรัสกับโยอาบ และประชาชนทุกคนที่อยู่กับพระองค์ว่า “จงฉีกเสื้อผ้าของท่านทั้งหลาย และเอาผ้ากระสอบคาดเอวไว้ และจงไว้ทุกข์ให้อับเนอร์” และกษัตริย์ดาวิดเสด็จตามแคร่หามศพอับเนอร์ไป
