ప్రజలను నాశనం చేసిన ఆ దూతను చూసి దావీదు యెహోవాను ఇలా ప్రార్థించాడు. “పాపం చేసిన వాణ్ని నేను గదా. దుర్మార్గంగా ప్రవర్తించిన వాణ్ని నేను గదా. గొర్రెలవంటి ఈ ప్రజలేమి చేసారు? నన్నూ నా తండ్రి కుటుంబాన్నీ శిక్షించు.”

And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.
