દાઉદે માણસોની ગણતરી કરાવ્યા પછી તે પોતાના હૃદયમાં ખિન્ન થયો. તેથી દાઉદે ઈશ્વરને કહ્યું, “મેં આ કરીને મોટું પાપ કર્યું છે. હવે, હે ઈશ્વર, કૃપા કરી તારા સેવકનો દોષ દૂર કર, કેમ કે મેં ઘણું મૂર્ખતાભર્યું કામ કર્યું છે.”

¶ And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
