దావీదు పరిపాలిస్తున్న కాలంలో మూడేళ్ళపాటు కరువు కొనసాగింది. దావీదు యెహోవాతో మనవి చేశాడు. అందుకు యెహోవా ఇలా చెప్పాడు. “సౌలు గిబియోనీయులను హతమార్చాడు. అతణ్ణి బట్టి, నరహంతకులైన అతని ఇంటివారిని బట్టి శిక్షగా ఈ కరువు ఏర్పడింది.”
