દાઉદની કારકિર્દી દરમ્યાન લગાતાર ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી દુકાળ પડ્યો, દાઉદે ઈશ્વરને પોકાર કર્યો. તેથી ઈશ્વરે કહ્યું, “શાઉલ તથા તેના ખૂની કુટુંબને લીધે તારા રાજ્ય પર આ દુકાળ આવ્યો છે, કેમ કે તેણે ગિબ્યોનીઓને મારી નાખ્યા હતા.”
