내 나이 이제 팔십세라 어떻게 좋고 흉한 것을 분간할 수 있사오며 음식의 맛을 알 수 있사오리이까 ? 어떻게 다시 노래하는 남자나 여인의 소리를 알아 들을 수 있사오리이까 ? 어찌하여 종이 내주 왕께 오히려 누를 끼치리이까 ?

I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?
