Men Herren (Jahveh) gav nåd (oförtjänt nåd – hebr. chanan) mot dem och var barmhärtig och vände sitt ansikte mot dem, på grund av sitt förbund med Abraham, Isak och Jakob och ville inte utrota dem, inte heller hade han kastat bort dem från sitt ansikte ända till nu.

And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
